Matt FilikIn addition to volunteering with his family at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), Certified Financial Planner Matt Filik lends his professional expertise to our Planned Giving Committee. His intimate knowledge of the impact estate planning can have on a non-profit’s mission also encourages him to participate in our Food • Help • Hope Legacy Society with his own planned gift.

“The FoodBank is not just about giving food. It’s also about instilling hope in people and giving them an avenue to make their lives better,” Matt says, explaining his dedication to CFBNJ.

Because of the high cost of living in New Jersey, anyone could be one paycheck away from food insecurity. “The face of hunger is not what we think. Hunger in New Jersey is not this thing that exists in the next town over or a city,” he says. “It’s present on your street, but it’s hidden…it's all around us.”

Matt’s consideration of CFBNJ in his estate planning shows that it’s never too early for our dedicated supporters to include us in their legacy giving plans. Millennials and younger donors are early in their philanthropic journey, searching for ways to support causes that align with their goals. A planned gift can allow them to make their first significant contribution to an organization’s mission.

As a founding member of CFBNJ’s Emerging Leaders Board, Matt inspires other young philanthropists to explore their possible legacy giving. These supporters can begin a lifetime of helping to fight hunger in New Jersey in partnership with CFBNJ through the Food • Help • Hope Legacy Society. Matt’s Board service and planned giving commitment are prime examples of millennials ushering in the next generation of volunteerism to help CFBNJ strive for a hunger-free New Jersey.
